The Bancroft Toilet Painting Competition
Hitchin Bid, Rhythms of the World & Pots of Art launched a collaborative Art Competition.
Local people were asked to submit circular designs based on the theme ‘What does Hitchin mean to you’. The 12 winning designs are now painted onto large boards, which are fixed to the front of the disused toilet block on Bancroft. This will help to create a vibrant centrepiece on one of Hitchin’s main thoroughfares.
The Team that helped put the project together: Keith Hoskins, Cath Cole, Liz Marfleet, George Georgiou, Emma Chadwick, Amanda Aylotte, Nat Sullivan, Sarah Brown.
Liz Marfleets’s team of volunteer artists: Bobbi Collingham, Suzie Hankey, Amy Hopkins, Kirsty Mcmenamin, Christine Challans and Sophie Postellac
Liz Marfleet, a volunteer for Rhythms of the World said:”We’re really delighted to be involved. As well as promoting world music, one of the aims of Rhythms of the World is to work with the local community and showcase the talent that we have here on our doorstep. This project will definitely achieve that!”
George Georgiou from Pots of Art on Bancroft said: “This is a great way to get more people actively involved in art and we hope the competition will encourage entries from schools and art colleges as well as practicing artists. Rhythms of the World means a lot to people in Hitchin and it makes sense for them to feature in the centre of the design”.
